Materials Engineer (Memphis, TN)
Aluma-Form, Inc. – a leader in the design and manufacture of custom-engineered overhead electrical and communication components – is currently looking for a Materials Engineer as follows:
Materials Engineer with a track record of conducting research and development for metal oxide varistors as well as porcelain and polymer housed surge arresters. Responsibilities include the following:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Silicate Engineering and 5 years of experience in a materials engineering capacity. Experience must include: (i) 5 years of experience conducting research and development for electronic ceramics and components, metal oxide varistors and arresters; (ii) 5 years of experience designing products using electronic ceramics and components, metal oxide varistors and arresters; (iii) 5 years of experience with the fabrication technology of metal oxide varistors; and (iv) must have a proven track record for patentable product development of metal oxide varistors and arresters.

Materials Engineer with a track record of conducting research and development for metal oxide varistors as well as porcelain and polymer housed surge arresters. Responsibilities include the following:
- Gather and analyze market intelligence for presentation to upper management on potential new product designs for the Utility market; develop full detailed engineering design aspects of new products including performance and market based requirements; and advise Manufacturing on needed technology and process for the fabrication of potential new products.
- Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost. Plan and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.
- Prepare all engineering documents including drawings, bill of materials, labels, packaging designs, technical reports, and any other technical deliverables as required by project scope.
- Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions. Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality.
- Design and direct the testing or control of processing procedures. Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.
- Guide technical staff engaged in developing materials for specific uses in projected products or devices. Support Sales and Marketing for any technical questions and requests as needed.
